How To Make Easy & Pretty DIY Wedding Signs
This is the method I used to make all of our wedding signs. I originally got the idea from something turquoise, so check out her tutorial for more tips and inspiration!
This is the method I used to make all of our wedding signs. I originally got the idea from something turquoise, so check out her tutorial for more tips and inspiration!
Start by picking your frame.
We chose five frames, ranging from 8x10 to 20x30, pictured above with our model, Chewy.
If you can find floating frames with two panes of glass I would suggest using those. They are by far the easiest to work with!
Plan out what you want your sign to say and choose a font that you love! We chose Foxglow for its legibility and handwritten feel.
Next open up Photoshop, Word, or whatever other program you like to use and type out your text to the desired size. For this sign we wanted big words that were easy to read from far away, so we filled each page with one word.
Print it out, position it, and tape it to the back of the glass.
Once you're happy with the layout you can start painting!
Grab your chalk marker and start tracing. For most types of chalk paint markers, you're going to want to shake before opening and press the tip down onto some scrap paper a couple times before beginning for a smoother line, but always follow the instructions on your specific brand's packaging!
Once you're done remove the paper and admire your work!
Allow the chalk paint to dry, then paint (or don't paint) the back of the glass with the colour of your choice! (If you are using a floating frame, paint one pane of glass with the words and the other with your background colour!)
I went for black (go figure) with slightly unfinished edges for a cool look.
Once the paint dries you can flip it around and see your finished product!
Quick Tip: For my frames with solid back panels, since I didn't paint the entire back of the glass, I just put a little hot glue along the edges to keep the glass in the frame.
And that's it! Super quick and easy, and I love the result! Any mistakes you make in the writing can easily be wiped away with a damp cloth which is a definite plus with cats around.
I will update this post with pictures of the signs up at our wedding as soon as I get home from our honeymoon!
