How I'm Getting Rid of 2018 Things in 2018 #2018MinGame
How am I getting rid of 2018 things in the last couple months of 2018? Using the classic #MinimalismGame format, of course! Let me walk you through how you can do it, too, and give you an update on my minimalism journey so far (3 years in the making)!

What is the 2018 Minimalism Game #2018MinGame Challenge?
Well, the basic premise is that I will be doing my very best to get rid of 2018 items in the remaining few months of 2018.
…
That’s pretty much it.
But HOW are you going to do it?
Ok fine, I’ll elaborate. I’m getting inspiration from The Minimalists and their 30 Day Minimalism Game, the classic month long challenge in which you get rid of one thing on day one, two things on day two, three things on day three, and on and on until you hit day thirty! In the 30 Day Minimalism Game, you get rid of 465 items total (if you make it to the end).
So, I’m just doing the EXTREME version of that same concept. Instead of getting rid of 465 things in 30 days, I will be getting rid of 2018 things by December 31st, 2018 (in approximately 4 months or 122 days).
Now technically I would only need 64 days to complete this challenge using the method set out by The Minimalists on their blog. But I’m trying to be realistic here. Clearly. So I’m doubling my time to ensure success! (This is wishful thinking at it’s finest but just go with it).
This challenge is ridiculous. I fully admit it. BUT when the idea popped into my head I just new I had to try it. To be honest, I don’t know if I even own 2018 things. But I’m going to find out! And I’m going to get rid of a lot of crap along the way. I’ve completed the first 10 days of my challenge so far, and purged 55 items! It feels so refreshing to be actively decluttering again. You can see the first 55 items I decided to part with in this video (skip to 20:18 to start with Day One - no really, that’s actually the time stamp. I couldn’t have planned it better if I tried.)
So join in, if you feel like a challenge, and tag #2018MinGame on social media so I can see how you’re doing! I’ll be updating you on my progress primarily on my Instagram, so follow me there if you haven’t already!
Check out the video I made for my YouTube channel to get a more thorough overview and to see what I decluttered for the first 10 days (totalling 55 items) along with my 3 year minimalism update! Watch the video here on my blog or hop on over to YouTube (and subscribe, while you’re at it! wink wink)
Ok, that's it! Happy decluttering.
Until next time,
xox Elizabeth
Do you ever finish a book and wonder if you really understood it? Do you give 5 stars to pretty much every book you read? Do you watch reviews of a book you enjoyed and find yourself surprised that the reviewer picked up on so many things you didn’t?
If this sounds like you and you want to make a change, this video is for you:
I set out this year to read a book from every country in the world and created a spread in my reading journal to track my progress (see image below). When I mentioned my goal in a YouTube video the suggestions started flooding in, and I realized it was worth taking the time to put together a little resource for us all to share!
One of the most common questions I have received over the past 7 years as a vegan is “How do you get enough [insert macro- or micronutrient here]?” This is a question I have explored in great detail on this blog, with dedicated posts focusing on protein, iron, B12, and so much more. And while I will always believe that getting your nutrition from whole plant foods is the best first choice, it’s not always a possibility for every person. Whether you live in a food desert with little access to fresh foods or struggle with digestive complications that make eating large amounts of high fiber foods a painful experience, sometimes supplementation is the only answer.
Today I will be sharing with you my favourite vegan gummy vitamins for maintaining optimal health as a vegan of over 7 years!
I have collected many of the resources from my Anti-Racism highlight on Instagram into this blog post as possible for those of you who don’t use Instagram but still want to do the work to become anti-racist. I will continue to update this page.
From January 5th to January 19th, $1 will be donated to the Australian Red Cross for every order placed to aid in emergency relief for those affected by the bushfires currently ravaging Australia.
With all of the hype surrounding the final season of Game of Thrones, I KNEW I had to celebrate my love for this epic fantasy world by creating a Game of Thrones themed bullet journal set up for May 2019!
I guess it’s almost 2019? I’m not sure how, but ok! Come hang out with me while I set up mu letterboard theme in my bullet journal for January 2019 and be sure to check out my husband’s set up next week (there will be a giveaway!)
Hello again :) This video is incredibly special to me, as I’m setting up my husband‘s first ever bullet journal! I’m super excited about this one and I hope you enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed putting it together.
Hi all! I'm excited to share my completed Rhodia Webnotebook with you today as I flip through all of my bullet journal spreads from January to September 2018 :)
It’s almost October and it’s time to set up my bullet journal for the new month! Hang out with me while I plan using a cozy fall, nighttime theme with a little touch of spookyness thrown in there for good measure. Let’s get into it!

Thank you again to my instagram family for giving me the idea and be sure to go follow me there if you want a say in what themes I do each month!
I'm turning 26 in a few days, and I wanted to share some of the nuggets of wisdom I've picked up along the way in my first quarter century of life!
I'm excited to be sharing my brand new work project management spread with you today! This is a combination of a leveled up to do list and a dynamic kanban board, and I am really looking forward to starting to use it in my day-to-day.
Hi friends! We have finally arrived at part 3 of our moon series, the Tombow Dual Brush Pen Moon Tutorial!
Hi friends! Due to popular demand, here is my Watercolour Moon Tutorial/Watercolour Moon Painting Process!
30 Day Minimalism Game!
Honesty moment: I went into November with the full intention to complete this challenge... and I failed. Not miserably, I still minimized about 50 items from my home, which is great! And considering I just spent months clearing over 50 percent of my belongings, that's a pretty impressive number. But I know I can do better. So I'm recommitting to a slightly tamed version of this challenge in December, and I really hope you'll join me!

What is the 30 Day Minimalism Game?
Originally posted on the minimalists, this game has very simple rules:
- Get a partner (or two, or three!) who's ready to purge their excess stuff;
- Each day of the month each of you discards the corresponding number of items (so on December 1st you each discard one item, on December 2nd you each discard 2 items, and so on.);
- You may discard whatever you like and in whatever fashion you desire (sell, donate, toss), but it must be out of your home by midnight;
- Whoever goes the longest wins!
#PBBMinGame
So how am I going to participate in the challenge this month? Rather than requiring myself to be rid of the items the same day (which is very difficult as I try to sell and donate as much as possible, and that can take a bit of time and coordination), the items must be out of my home by the last day of each week (Saturday at midnight).
I am also not going to discard each day. Instead, I am going to discard three days a week. I'm going to discard on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays to give myself a couple of days to get rid of the items at the end of each week.
Using this schedule I will be discarding a total of 226 items from my home over the month of December! While I expect to receive a couple gifts this holiday season (and already have received some lovely ones from Jason), they definitely won't outnumber the items I'm letting go of. And isn't that just the most exciting idea ever? Minimalist holidays for the win!
Ready to join me for the challenge?
Comment below letting me know you're in and be sure to like my Facebook page where I will be posting my discarded items all December long! Tag me on instagram and twitter @elizabethturn so that I can see what you're getting rid of and how you're doing. Be sure to use the hashtag #PBBMinGame so that I can see each and every post!
Until next time,
Don't forget to subscribe to the Plant Based Bride newsletter, where you'll get weekly updates with posts and news from yours truly! (And maybe some exclusive content coming very soon!)
I'm thinking of writing a post all about how to talk to your friends and family about not giving you too many "things" for the holidays (undoing all of your minimalist progress), in the very nicest way possible, of course! Let me know if you'd be interested in said post :)

At its core, the personal curriculum movement is about celebrating lifelong learning and intellectual curiosity. It's about being more intentional about how we spend our time when we're not sleeping, or at work, or doing the basic maintenance or admin or chores to keep our lives going. It's about using our free time to enrich our lives in a way that is purposeful and intentional and joyful, indulging our curiosity as adults, even once we're outside of structured school environments, getting excited about learning and allowing ourselves the freedom to go down those rabbit holes in our special interests, to challenge our brains in ways that we maybe don't get the chance to in our day-to-day lives.
